Utah Geological Survey monitoring Great Salt Lake groundwater

SYRACUSE (Oct. 8, 2024) – Utah Geological Survey scientist Hugh Hurlow recently gave an update and behind-the-scenes look at how their team is measuring groundwater flow below and up to the bed of Great Salt Lake. This data will help calibrate numerical models for managing groundwater in and around Great Salt Lake, clarify the effects of groundwater pumping along the Wasatch Front and estimate flow rates of groundwater below the surface.
